Summer Programs

Programs available during the summer include:

SMART Program

The SMART program is designed for undergraduate students who are interested in exploring a career in scientific research. Applications are due by Feb. 1 of each year.

The Summer Science for Seniors (S3) Program for High School Seniors

The Baylor College of Medicine Graduate School sponsors a summer research program for local rising high school seniors. Students from any school in the Houston area are eligible for the program. Applicants must be high school juniors and at least 16 years old by June 1 of the year in which they participate. Application deadline is March 15 of their junior year.

A limited number of positions are available for teachers. Participants conduct research in laboratories throughout the College.

Summer Surgery Program

The Michael E. DeBakey Summer Surgery Program encourages the development and interest of well-qualified young students who are considering a medically oriented career. The program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to work with faculty, surgical residents, medical students, and nurses in our various teaching hospitals.
