About Us
Welcome to the Ron Davis Laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine. Our research interests are broad but are centered on the molecular and cellular basis of memory formation and related brain disorders. A more complete description of the ongoing research projects is found under Research Projects but in general, the laboratory uses a variety of techniques to dissect learning, memory, and other types of behavior.
We pursue such issues using Drosophila, the mouse, and most recently we have extended our studies into the human with a collaborative project focusing on the genetics of mood disorders. We employ many different approaches including genetic, molecular biological, cellular, neuroanatomical, imaging, computational, and behavioral techniques.
It is our philosophy that solving complex problems such as how memories are formed and stored requires a multi-level, interdisciplinary approach. These broad interests and multidisciplinary research have resulted in our affiliation with eight different departments, centers, and programs at Baylor, including the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics, the Department of Neuroscience, the Program in Developmental Biology, the Cellular and Molecular Biology Graduate Program, the Huffington Center on Aging, and the Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Research Center.
Members of the laboratory have made many new discoveries. Some of the more important ones are highlighted under Lab Discoveries and a list of supporting Publications can be found at the appropriate link. Visit What's New to learn about the latest developments in the laboratory.
